Swiped Debit (Offline Debit / Check Cards):
Any debit card with a MasterCard or Visa logo can be swiped just like a regular credit card. This rate will be lower than your swiped credit card rate. Most processors charge a percentage (discount rate) and a transaction fee for swiped debit transactions.
Pin Debit (Online Debit / Pin Debit):
Any debit card (even ones with a Mastercard or Visa logo) can also be accepted as a pin debit transaction. This is where your customer enters a pin code into the credit card machine or an attached pin pad. You will just pay a transaction fee for Pin Debit transactions. There is no percentage charged for this type of payment. If your average sale is more then $15 you should consider pin debit. Also, there are some debit cards that have no MC/ Visa logo.
